The Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) is a nationally recognised three-day qualification that meets the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) requirements for first aiders in the workplace. If you are a nominated first aider in your organisation, this course is essential for ensuring you are equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills to act effectively in an emergency. This blended course combines self-directed e-learning and face-to-face practical training. The first part of the course, which covers the theoretical knowledge, is completed online at your own pace. The second part consists of two consecutive days of classroom-based training, where you will develop practical skills and undergo assessments to achieve your qualification.

The course provides comprehensive training, including: • The roles and responsibilities of a first aider. • How to assess an incident effectively. • Recognising the signs and symptoms of injury and illness. • Practical skills such as performing CPR • Using an automated external defibrillator (AED) • Assisting a casualty with major injuries or illnesses. • The use of auto-injecting devices for severe allergic reactions. Practical teaching and assessment will ensure that you are confident and competent in managing first aid incidents.

This course is delivered by blended learning methods. Self-Directed E-Learning: This online component is designed to take approximately one day to complete. You can work through it at your own pace and convenience, but it must be finished (with online verification) at least 48 hours before attending the classroom-based training. Face-to-Face Training: Over two consecutive days, you will join a classroom-based session led by an experienced instructor. During this time, you will participate in multiple-choice exams and practical skill assessments. The majority of the time will be spent practising first aid techniques and developing your ability to manage real-world incidents.

To successfully complete this course, learners must be able to demonstrate CPR and recovery position techniques for a minimum of two minutes each at floor level. You must be able to independently get down to the floor and remain there for the duration of this activity. It is recommended that participants have English language skills equivalent to Level 1 to ensure they can complete the e-learning and multiple-choice assessments. You will also need access to an internet-connected device, such as a smartphone, tablet, or laptop, to complete the self-directed learning element. A link to this e-learning platform will be provided upon enrolment. If you have dyslexia or another learning difficulty that could impact your ability to complete the self-directed study, please let us know at the time of enrolment so that appropriate support can be arranged.

Successful candidates will be awarded the Highfield Level 3 Award in First Aid at Work (RQF) certificate, which is valid for three years. This qualification may be required for your current role or could enhance your CV when applying for positions where first aid knowledge is either desirable or mandatory.
