Courses for Learners with Learning Disabilities and Difficulties (LLDD)
We are pleased to offer a variety of courses for people aged 25 and over with moderate learning
disabilities and difficulties.
Our courses offer students the opportunity to experience the positive effects of learning, enjoying increased independence and wellbeing, a wider social circle and new interests and skills.
We can address learning needs such as the development of English and maths, work and social skills through enterprise, physical wellbeing and mental wellbeing through healthy living and the arts.
These courses include:
Our Arts and Crafts courses allow our learners to discover different types of arts and crafts, including:
- Drawing
- Painting
- Printing
- Sewing
- Creating collages
- Making Models
Our 3D Craft courses teaches our learners how to:
- Construct 3D forms from clay and create a range of projects. These include looking at slab pottery, adding texture, and using different tools.
- Be creative with textiles, making cushion designs, pencil cases and aprons.
- Use recycled and found materials to make new works of art including art for garden and picture frames for the house.
- Use paintings and drawings to research and complement the work and then filling a sketchbook with ideas.
Our Grow your own Vegetables and Salad course teaches learners:
- How to grow vegetables and salads from seeds. The possible options of these being beans, beetroot, carrots, lettuce, radish, cucumbers, marrows, courgettes, potatoes, and spring onions.
- How to plan a grid vegetable plot
- Health and safety when gardening
- How to identify the 7 main gardening tools and use these safely
- How to identify and remove weeds in the garden
Our Health Eating course teaches learners:
- How to prepare healthy meals and snacks hygienically and safely
- How to use different cooking methods
- How to use different kitchen equipment and utensils safely
- What food groups make up a balanced diet
- Why is it important to have a balanced diet
- About portion control
- The importance of exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle.
Our Music and Sing course teaches learners how to read the music by following simple instructions. If they would like to, they will be encouraged to perform in front of an audience. This course also teaches learners about beats and rhythm by playing percussion instruments such as:
- Tambourine
- Drums
- Maracas
On our Learn to Play the Guitar courses each session will cover a different genre of music and learners will get to play popular hits from each genre. Each session embeds the fundamentals of playing the guitar including:
- Reading guitar notation
- Strumming
- Picking techniques

Our Literacy and Numeracy for Independence teaches our learners how to:
- Add and take away money and check change
- Write a simple sentence with good spelling
- Read from newspapers, magazines, books, and letters
- Take part in discussions and activities to learn more maths and English
- Learn how to be safe when using a computer to search on the internet
Our Enterprise Skill course gives learners the exciting challenge of working with a team to plan, design, and sell a product. At the end of the course, all products will be donated to a charity of the group’s choice. This course explores how to:
- Work successfully within a team
- Share ideas within a group environment
- Use the computer safely for research
- Identify the resources needed for the product
- Use math to calculate the costs needed for the product
- Market and sell the finished product
- Review what went well and what changes would be made next time
